Then the Romans took responsibility, and after that the Visigoths, while the Moors took over in 715 when the fortress began to take its current appearance.

Praia da Falésia

Both sides of the marina at Vilamoura are miles of beach with fine golden sand. Closest to the west is the Blue Flag-rated Praia da Falésia, which is surrounded by reddish cliffs and runs for 5.5 kilometers. In autumn and winter these stones are used by rain and wind to feed sand on the beach, and it is not unusual to see small sand dunes at the base of a cliff. As for water, it only has moderate currents and is swim-friendly because there are no rocks hiding in the waves.

The Gypsy Saturday Market

The Saturday market is designed for Portuguese, who are looking for cheap and delicious street food! It was filled with stalls selling cheap clothes, random hardware items and gifts ranging from crafts to old jumble. The market is held on the west side of the city.

The Igreja Matriz (Igreja de Clemente)

Igreja Matriz is a 13th century gothic church that was converted from a mosque. This church has a plain white painted exterior, but a prominent feature is the bell tower which was originally a minaret. This church is often called the Igreja de Clemente, because Loule was captured from the Moors on November 23 (1249), the patron’s holy day of Saint Clemente.
